Bandar Khairan — Muscat's Secret Beach★★
Bandar Khairan is a hidden bay 30 km southeast of Muscat — a paradise of turquoise water, secluded beaches, and offshore rocky islands that most tourists overlook.
What to Expect
- Snorkeling: The reefs off the rocky islands are among the best near Muscat. Turtles, clownfish, colorful corals — and all just 30 minutes from the capital!
- Kayaking: The rugged coastline with its caves and bays is perfect for exploring by sea kayak. Half- and full-day tours available
- Camping: On weekends, locals and expats come to camp on the secluded beaches. Bring your own equipment
- Cliff Jumping: Jumping from the rocks into crystal-clear water — extremely popular among young Omanis
Getting There
The road to Bandar Khairan is paved and accessible with a regular car. Rent boats at the parking lot (5–10 OMR for a transfer to the main bay) or take the 20-minute hike over the hill. Organized snorkeling and kayaking tours also start from Al Mouj Marina in Muscat (from 25 OMR).
💡 Tipp
Bandar Khairan is the perfect half-day trip from Muscat — especially if you don't have time for the Daymaniyat Islands. Visit during the week (Sun–Thu), as it can get crowded on weekends (Fri/Sat). Bring your own snorkeling gear or rent it at the parking lot.
