Beaches & Coastline★★

Beaches in and around Muscat

Muscat has some of the most beautiful city beaches in the Gulf region — and they are almost all freely accessible.

Qurum Beach

The most popular public beach in Muscat: A long, golden sandy beach stretching along the Qurum promenade. In the evenings, families, joggers, and lovers stroll by the water. On weekends (Friday/Saturday), it can get crowded. Public changing rooms and showers available.

Yiti Beach

A hidden bay 30 km south of Muscat, accessible via a winding mountain road. Turquoise water, fine sand, few people — perfect for a quiet beach day. On weekends, locals come to camp. No restaurant — bring your own provisions!

Bimmah Sinkhole

Not a beach in the traditional sense, but one of the most fascinating natural phenomena in Oman: A circular, 20-meter deep limestone crater filled with turquoise water where you can swim. The color of the water is surreal. Located 90 km east of Muscat on the coastal road to Sur, it can be perfectly combined with a trip to Wadi Shab.

💡 Tipp

At the beach, it's respected for women to wear bikinis/swimsuits at public beaches, but it's not the norm everywhere. In hotel complexes, of course, it's not a problem. At secluded beaches like Yiti, it's uncomplicated. Qurum Beach is a wonderful place for an evening stroll at sunset.

Al Mouj Marina & The Wave

Al Mouj (also known as "The Wave") is Muscat's most modern district — and the perfect contrast to traditional Mutrah. Here, Oman showcases its contemporary face:

  • Marina: Elegant marina promenade with restaurants, cafés, and boutiques. Illuminated and lively in the evenings. Many boat tours to the Daymaniyat Islands start from here
  • The Walk: A 2 km long beachfront promenade with restaurants and shops. Joggers, families, and walkers — the most relaxed atmosphere in Muscat
  • Al Mouj Golf: 18-hole golf course right by the sea, designed by Greg Norman. Green fees: 35–60 OMR
  • Restaurants: The highest restaurant density in Muscat: Shatti 31 (seafood, 5–10 OMR), Rider's Café (burgers and wraps, 3–5 OMR), Tomato (Italian, 4–8 OMR). On weekends (Friday/Saturday), tables are full — reserve!

Al Mouj is located 15 km west of Mutrah at the airport and is suitable as a base for travelers who prefer modern infrastructure to a traditional environment.
