The new Munch Museum (opened 2021) is an architectural statement: A 60-meter high, slightly tilted tower made of perforated aluminum on the shore of the Oslofjord in Bjørvika. It houses the world's largest collection of Edvard Munch — over 28,000 works, including paintings, prints, drawings, and sculptures.

The star, of course, is "The Scream" (Skrik, 1893) — one of the most famous images in art history. Munch painted four versions; two are here. Additionally impressive are "Madonna", "Vampire", "Puberty", and the monumental Aula paintings of the University of Oslo.

The museum spans 13 floors with changing exhibitions. On the top floor, the restaurant and bar area offers a breathtaking panoramic view over Oslo and the fjord. The rooftop terrace is accessible even without a museum visit.

💡 Tipp

Be sure to book tickets online in advance — the time slots for "The Scream" are limited. The best time is late afternoon when the tour groups are gone. The rooftop bar with fjord views is worth a visit even without a ticket.
