Discover Oslo

Oslo is located at the end of the 100-kilometer-long Oslofjord, surrounded by wooded hills — the Nordmarka. The city is compact and pedestrian-friendly: It takes 30 minutes to walk from the main train station to Vigeland Park, 5 minutes to the Opera House. The new harbor district Bjørvika has given Oslo a modern face, while Grünerløkka and Tøyen are the trendy neighborhoods.

Bjørvika & Havnepromenaden

The former harbor area is Oslo's architectural showcase: The Opera House (2008) with its walkable marble roof, the new Munch Museum (Lambda, 2021) as a slanted tower of perforated aluminum, the Deichman Bjørvika (Norway's most modern library, 2020), and the Barcode District with its distinctive high-rises. The Havnepromenaden (harbor promenade) connects everything along 9 kilometers by the water.

Grünerløkka

Oslo's hip neighborhood by the Akerselva River: vintage shops, independent bookstores, craft beer bars, specialty coffee (Tim Wendelboe, Fuglen, Supreme Roastworks), and some of the city's best restaurants. On Sundays, the Birkelunden flea market is a must. The Akerselva itself offers a beautiful walking path with waterfalls in the middle of the city.

Aker Brygge & Tjuvholmen

The former shipyard on the west side of the harbor is now Oslo's promenade: restaurants, bars, and boutiques by the water, with views of Akershus Fortress and the fjord. The adjacent Tjuvholmen houses the Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art (Renzo Piano) and a small city beach.

Tøyen & Kampen

The up-and-coming districts east of the center: Tøyen is home to the Botanical Garden and the Natural History Museum. Kampen, with its colorful wooden houses on steep lanes, feels like a village within the city. Here you will find the most authentic gastro scene off the tourist paths.
