Vigeland Sculpture Park★★★
The Vigeland Sculpture Park (Vigelandsanlegget) in Frogner Park is one of the most unique works of art in the world: 212 sculptures made of bronze, granite, and wrought iron, created by a single artist — Gustav Vigeland (1869–1943). The sculptures depict the human life cycle in all its facets: birth, childhood, love, old age, death.
The centerpiece is the 17-meter-high Monolith (Monolitten), a single granite column of 121 intertwined human bodies. The work took 14 years to complete. In front stretches the Bridge with 58 bronze sculptures, including the famous Sinnataggen — the angry boy stomping his foot. At the end of the axis lies the Wheel of Life (Livshjulet), a ring of intertwined bodies.
The park is open around the clock and free of charge — a gift to the city and its visitors. In summer, a popular meeting place for picnics, in winter snow-covered and almost mystical.
💡 Tipp
Come before 9 AM or after 7 PM for the best atmosphere and fewer visitors. At sunset, the monolith casts long shadows — photographically the most beautiful. Vigeland Park is impressive all year round, but especially atmospheric in fresh snow.
